Ancient Greece

Here is a drawing of Ancient Greece with One male being a Hoplite and another being a Greek maiden (possibly from Athens). Behind them is a map of Greece during its ancient glory as an empire that stretched into the Mediterranean and then conquered the Persian Empire under the banner of Alexander the Great. There were four powerful city-states in the Greek world: Athens, Thebes, Argos, and Sparta. Athens is known to be the world's first democracy as well as a naval superpower that forged the Delian League. The Spartans ruled a militaristic oligarchy that won a victory against the Persians and were known for their eugenics and their brutal way of life (similar a country mixed between Stalinist ideals and Fascist Italy). Thebes is best known for making an alliance with the Persians against Athens in 480 BC and were known for their dominance over the region of Boeotia. And finally, Argos, which may have rivaled Sparta over control of the Peloponnese region, but was neutral during the Athenian-Spartan War. Olympia serves as the birth place of the Greek Olympics, a sports even that had developed into the modern world. Delphi is also famous because it was home to the mysterious Oracle of the Temple of Delhpi. All these city-states were important because each of them shared the same culture and language as well as they had different political beliefs, which are very interesting. Homer, Socrates, Leonidas, Pericles, Alexander the Great, Aristotle, and Pythagoras were very famous Greek people who had shaped ancient Greek civilization and inspired the Romans into building their own vast empire. When comparing the Greco-Persian War with World War 2, I would compare Persia with the Nazis because both were very expansionist, and Greece with the Allied forces because they each faced a powerful enemy within heir own part in history.
