Here is a map for the Halo Installations, where we can see a connection of the rings around installation 07 while the Ark is outside of the Milky way, being used as a device to activate them. The Forerunners used it when they had failed many times to crush the Flood.

why would 87 be in the middle if the other ones have a blast area that can well cover the center then 87 really has no effect in the dead center of the galaxy. just saying...

I agree that their cant be any installations in the galactic center as most of the populated stars would be spread out from the outer hub to the galactic rim the gravitational sheer alone from a super massive black-hole would tear it to pieces and throughout the halo story we've seen how easily they can be destroyed i.e both of the Installation 04s and the original halos that attacked the Forerunner Homeworld in Cryptum proving they are far from indestructible. Originally the flood was contained behind the Maginot sphere, a smaller portion of our galaxy and the halos were fired before they broke through, also as stated be 343 GS that the Installation has a maximum effective pulse of 25,000 LY so they would require overlapping fields of fire to be in anyway effective. In my opinion to get the best coverage with 7 installations would be 3 around the inner galactic hub and the other 4 arranged around them for the galactic rim, course at the end of the day its 343 industries that decides how they were deployed and fired. hope this helps if u ever want to build on this otherwise nice attempt:D
